Barnstormers

This 19th Century brick and flint coastal barn in Norfolk is to be refurbished, with the
internal layout being totally remodelled.

The proposed works consist of replacing the existing timber roof trusses with new
exposed steel scissor trusses which will generate dramatic height in the first floor
and allow for the construction of a new mezzanine floor. The steel trusses will have
back to back angles with a shadow gap, discreet connections with unobtrusive
bolts.

The first floor will be rebuilt and support a new fireplace. The existing staircase will
be removed and a new one installed.

The existing ground floor construction of concrete slab and brickwork will be
removed and replaced with a new reinforced concrete insulated slab.

The large expanse of windows will require new frames and support with new
glazing. The rear external balcony is to be extended by one bay accomodating new
waterproofing.

Working closely with the architects, steel and glazing contractors, RISE have
responded to issues as they are being discovered on site.
