Two perfect homes for social housing designed to high standards
Two, three-bedroom, semi-detached houses built at Portishead were constructed for the Alliance Homes Group in North Somerset, and achieved Level 6 under the BREEAM Code for Sustainable Homes.
The houses are extensively glazed and have a north-south orientation to optimize their solar exposure. The roofs have photovoltaic panels to provide renewable energy on site. Rainwater is harvested to reduce the use of mains water.
The houses are airtight to the PassiveHaus standard. This, together with a high level of insulation, reduces heating requirements. Mechanical ventilation with a heat-recovery system is used to introduce fresh air into the homes.
Since there are few bills to pay, those two homes are perfect social houses.
RISE won LABC building excellence 2014 award for this project.
